Direct messaging in TeamOK is designed for private, individual conversations between two colleagues. It ensures fast, focused communication for matters that require personal attention and avoids the distractions of group chats.

Direct messages are visually prioritized with orange badges to help you stay on top of critical one-on-one communication.

To create a direct chat, go to the Direct section in the left-hand menu. Click the + icon at the top and select Direct message. Use the search bar to find the teammate, then click Start Chat to begin the conversation.

You can also start a direct message by clicking the three-dot menu next to a group name and selecting Direct message. This achieves the same result.

Additional actions from the + button include:

  • Start a Call to launch an immediate voice/video call. If a direct chat doesn't exist yet, this will create one.

  • Schedule a Call in advance, which also creates a dedicated chat and a related thread for the scheduled call.

  • Add Group to create custom groupings for chats, such as by project or department.

  • Manage Groups to add, update or remove groups, including drag-and-drop reordering for better organization.

Unread button filters the list to show only conversations with unread messages. A small orange indicator appears on the button when new messages are present, signaling attention is needed. Use this filter to reduce distraction from already read threads.

Each direct conversation includes a context menu, accessible by right-clicking on the chat name. From this menu you can:

  • Add to favorites to pin the conversation for quick access.

  • Turn notifications on or off for that specific chat.

  • Move to group to assign the chat to a custom group for organization. Option to create a new group is available in this menu.
