Group chats in the Chats section support team-wide or interest-based collaboration by providing a structured, accessible space for ongoing discussions, updates, and shared decision-making.

Green numeric indicators next to group chats highlight the number of unread messages, making it easy to spot active conversations and stay updated on group activity.

Creating a Group Chat

  1. Go to the Chats section.

  2. Click the + icon at the top right. Choose Create Chat.

  3. You can also start a Chat by clicking the three-dot menu next to a group name and selecting Create Chat.

  4. Name the chat, customize its behavior and access permissions in the Chat customization drop-down, search and select the teammates, and Create a chat.

Chat customization settings tailor the conversation to its purpose - such as open discussion, announcements, or internal coordination - with options including:

  • Official
Marks the chat as an official company channel. These chats display a special badge and cannot be exited by participants unless removed by an admin.

  • Private chat
Makes the chat visible only to added members. It will not appear in the list of public chats and cannot be joined without an invitation.

  • Allow self-joining to chat
Enables team members to join the chat on their own without an invite, useful for open-interest groups or informal discussions.

  • Only admins can call
Restricts the ability to initiate voice/video calls in the chat to admins only. Other members can participate in calls but cannot start them.

  • Only admins can post
Admins can send messages in the chat, while regular participants can reply within message threads but cannot post directly. This setting is ideal for announcement-style channels where controlled communication is required.

Chat customization settings can be combined depending on the communication flow and control you want for the chat.

Additional actions from the + button include:

Start a Call - initiates an instant voice or video call. This action is also accessible via Quick Actions in the top-right icons.

Schedule a Call – sets up a call in advance. Also accessible via Quick Actions in the top-right icons.

Add Group – creates custom groupings of chats, such as by project or department.

Manage Groups – allows you to add, edit, remove, or reorder groups using drag-and-drop for improved organization.

Chat Admin

The chat creator is designated as the admin. Admin rights allow editing chat settings, assigning or removing admins, and managing members.

To assign admin rights, navigate to Chat Settings > Participants, and click the person gear icon next to the participant’s name.

Under the Chat Settings gear icon at the top right, three tabs are available: Info, Participants, and Notifications.

Info Tab

Allows you to update the basic configuration of the chat.

  • Chat Name & Description: You can modify the chat name and add a description to clarify its purpose.

  • Chat Customization: Revisit the customization options defined at chat creation.

  • Link Sharing: A public shareable link is automatically generated for the chat. You can copy it to invite others directly.

  • Leave Chat: You will see the option to leave the chat; it may appear active or grayed out depending on whether leaving the chat is permitted or restricted.

  • Delete Chat: Available only for chat creators/admins, this removes the chat entirely.

Participants Tab

This tab lets you view and manage chat members.

  • Participants List: Displays all current members at the top, including admin labels. To remove someone, simply click the cross (×) icon next to their name. It's an immediate and efficient way to manage access.

  • Department /Team Views: Switch between viewing employees by Departments or Teams for faster selection.

  • Search Bar: Use the search function to locate teammates quickly by name or role.

Notifications Tab

This tab allows each participant to manage their notification preferences for the chat.

  • On: Enables alerts for all new messages.

  • Off: Mutes all notifications related to this specific chat.

These settings are personal and do not affect other participants' preferences.

Filters and Sorting

Three filters are available to help organize your chat list.

  1. My Chats displays conversations you are a member of. When deselected, it shows public or official chats you are not part of, but can access to. These are listed under Other available chats.

  2. Unread filters the list to show only chats with unread messages. A small green indicator appears on the button when new messages are present, signaling that attention is needed.

  3. Recent sorts chats by the timestamp of the latest message.

Each direct conversation includes a context menu, accessible by right-clicking on the chat name. From this menu you can:

  • Add to favorites to pin the conversation for quick access.

  • Copy chat link

  • Access Chat settings

  • Turn notifications on/off for that specific chat.

  • Move to group to assign the chat to a custom group for organization.
